Adapting a vacant service garage with abandoned underground tanks into a repurposed vertical farm, market, coffee shop, restaurant, garden, and event space, Grow + Gather aspires to be a creative, purpose-filled gathering place that serves fresh greens on a small infill lot, in a previously underserved neighborhood.  The project takes meaningful sustainability to a new level by pushing the boundaries of vertical farming and finding inventive ways to minimize water and energy use.  Previous impervious surfaces became gardens and green roofs, and selected plants improve water quality before draining offsite.  Strategically placed solar voltaic panels shade the building and offset energy use of the intense lighting needed for the vertical farming. Elements of the original garage including the structure were preserved and repurposed to not only retain historical character, but to serve new uses as furnishings and fixtures throughout the site.
